How can a UAL research centre renew its relationship with teaching and learning to reach a broader mix of students? Director of the Photography and the Archive Research Centre (PARC), Brigitte Lardinois workshops ideas with Pratap Rughani (ADR) to develop new opportunities for staff and students to interact with and co-develop Teaching & Learning events from emerging research insights. This workshop coincides with the launch of PARC’s new exhibition programme “Territorial Troubles” opening later in the day on March 17th, focused on Northern Ireland and emergence through conflict. We are very excited to have REF Panel Chair, Professor Anne Boddington coming to speak to LCC staff about research on January 30th. The talk will be followed by a Q&A and drinks. Anne Boddington is the chair of the REF2021 Sub Panel for Art & DesignHistory, Practice & Theory, as well as Professor of Design Innovation and Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research, Business & Innovation at Kingston University in London. She has offered to present her thoughts on research (especially practice research) and explore questions and ideas in an extended Q&A/discussion. Anne has a particular interest in academic and research leadership, the future of research in the Arts and extensive experience of the REF. Anne is in discussion with LCC’s REF Panel Chair Professor Pratap Rughani. All staff are welcome, but of special interest to those on the research pathway or interested in joining it. The Forgiveness Project’s Annual Lecture 12 November 2019
The Forgiveness Project founder Marina Cantacuzino, will mark the 15th anniversary of The Forgiveness Project. The Forgiveness Project collects and shares stories from both victims/survivors and perpetrators of crime and conflict who have rebuilt their lives following hurt and trauma.
Marina will be joined on stage by Jacob Dunne and Joan Scourfield who shared their personal experience of restorative justice and explored how dialogue could be a powerful force in ending cycles of violence.

Kubrick: Designing Worlds Conference at The Design Museum, London 13 & 14 September 2019.
“Explore the legacy of Stanley Kubrick and his impact on design in this symposium from leading designers and theorists including Chris Baker, Howard Berry and A Clockwork Orange designer Milena Canonero.
Professor Rughani will deliver a paper and screening: Kubrick’s Lens: how fake news designs conflict Bakala Auditorium 12:00 – 13:00 Panel 5: Imaging Conflict, Chloe Dewe Matthews, chaired by Paul Goodwin.
This two-day symposium will explore the legacy of Stanley Kubrick’s films and their impact on design. Drawing on the Stanley Kubrick exhibition at the Design Museum and the Stanley Kubrick Archive at the Archives and Special Collections Centre, UAL, this symposium aims to illuminate discussions around the practices that underpin film production, extending the range of engaged disciplines beyond the screen towards the design of imagined worlds and virtual reality. “

Visible Evidence XXVI 24 – 28 July 2019
Visible Evidence, the international conference on documentary film and media, will convene for its 26th year at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California July 24-28, 2019.
28 July 11 – 12:45 SCA 204 in the session The Ethics and Politics of New Documentary Technologies Professor Rughani presents a paper: Testing Documentary Ethics in Research and Making: An Online Tool for Learning and Teaching.
One World Media Awards 2019
One World Media’s mission is to support strong, vibrant and independent media coverage on developing countries that empowers citizens, promotes justice and creates social impact.
Dr Rughani is one of this year’s judges for the Television Documentary Award category for a factual journalistic programme broadcast on television or online, either standalone or one episode from a series, that deals with stories, topics or issues in, about or related to the developing world.
Finalists announced at the end of April, Awards Ceremony 17 June.
The One World Media Awards span 15 categories, celebrating work from all media platforms and across a wide range of genres.
