Ethics for Making, an online space for students, teachers and makers to explore ethics in creative arts practice developed by Dr Rughani, was featured in the Education in Progress exhibition in the Lower Street Gallery at London College of Communication, as part of UAL Research Fortnight in March.
Dr Pratap Rughani, Associate Dean of Research, LCC, will chair this panel discussion, part of Research Fortnight.
Panel members will give a brief presentation on their own research and practice and its connections with the Holocaust.

As researchers, writers and creative practitioners why do we choose to make work in the aftermath of atrocity? Is there a potential for the creative process and its artefacts to enable human connection when it is all but lost or destroyed? How do we engage with the issue of ethics in researching, writing and making post-atrocity artefacts from the remnants of dark periods in history?

“We look into the ethics of representation and ethics of production in documentary as an inextricable cycle, addressing documentary’s legacy of ethnography and its distillation into modern documentary practice. Our panellists will address the thin line between ‘subject’ and ‘object’; who is looking at who from both behind and in front of the camera and what might constitute a meaningful dialogue between the two.”

At the 10th edition of the Fastnet Film Festival, Ireland, the seminar ‘Films to Change the World’ will focus on Human Rights, with Dr Emma Sandon, Senior Lecturer in Film and TV, at Birkbeck, University of London, and at the Cinema, Human Rights and Advocacy Summer School, and Dr Pratāp Rughani, Director, Lotus Films & Associate Dean of Research at London College of Communication, University of the Arts, London.
i-Docs 2018 is a three-day event dedicated to the expanding and evolving field of interactive documentary, hosted by the University of the West of England’s Digital Cultures Research Centre (DCRC). The fifth edition of i-Docs is convened by Judith Aston, Sandra Gaudenzi and Mandy Rose, and produced by Julia Scott-Stevenson.
i-Docs 2018 will be held at the Watershed in Bristol’s Harbourside on Wednesday 21st – Friday 23rd March 2018.

In his Keynote presentation held at the Professor Mugendi K M’Rithaa’s will talk about his role as President of the World Design Organisation (WDO) and his recent transitioning from this role to become President Emeritus, and mentor to the WDO Board for the next two years, Dr M’Rithaa will reflect on key achievements and challenges ahead.
He will also discuss his ideas for Inclusive Design, and a more nuanced approach to this as a key strategy for design thinking, to address expansive issues encompassing: social, geo political, economic, environmental. In addition to conventional perception of this approach to design, to put first the interests of vulnerable and minority populations, those with disabilities, age and ageing, the materially and sensorily challenged.

Dr Rughani delivered a lecture on Stanley Kubrick and a scriptwriting workshop based on following Kubrick’s process of adaptation through scene development techniques, applied to new student ideas. Delivered to Whistling Woods Institute of Film Communication & Creative Arts faculty and students on Feb 14 2018.
Dr Pratap Rughani will give a paper Praxis through the hand, mind, heart and eye in the Creative Art / Anthropology Praxis as Revelation and Resistance panel at the conference held at the Clore Centre of the British Museum and SOAS 1 – 3 June 2018.
The conference is presented by the Royal Anthropological Institute, the Department of Africa, Oceania and the Americas of the British Museum and the Department of Anthropology at SOAS.
